MANUAL OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE

follows the philosophy that overall health is optimized when the needs of the whole body are collectively maintained.

It focuses on restoring proper function through hands on rehabilitation techniques; correcting structural problems involving joints, connective tissues, internal organs, nerves and blood vessels to reduce pain.

ORIGIN OF MANUAL OSTEOPATHY

Originated in Kirksville, Missouri by American Physician, Andrew Taylor Still in 1874.
It began with the belief that muscles, joints, internal organs, connective tissues, nerves and blood vessels function together in an integrated manner.

Meaning, if one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body adapts to compensate; leading to inflammation, pain, stiffness and other poor health conditions.

With this new found knowledge he began correcting structural problems arising within joints, muscles and connective tissues; therefore, Osteopathic Treatment being created and returning proper function to the joints, muscles, spine, nervous system and circulatory system, resulting in whole body wellness.

MANUAL OSTEOPATHY PRINCIPLES:

Manual Osteopaths support the philosophy that the body functions as a unit and is self-healing when properly maintained.
If one area develops dysfunction it can create problems in the other systems, resulting in pain; not only locally, but in the other parts of the body as well.
The whole body must function together for optimal health.
Using manual therapy and strengthening every aspect of the body by manipulating joints, muscles, the spine, nervous system, circulatory system and lymphatic system will result in full body wellness.
